Industry sources suggest that the expected announcement for amendments to Part L of the building regulations will now happen after the elections in early May. Although the Government has this month published responses to its consultation on the new amendments, there is speculation that the new regulations, which will come into effect in October, will not be available for up to several months.
The proposed new regulations aim to make buildings 25 per cent more efficient than 2006 levels, saving around 2 million tonnes of carbon every year by 2020.
The Part L impact assessment carried out found that the costs of implementing higher standards under Part L regulations will be more than outweighed by the energy savings for all building types.
