PassivHaus

PassivHaus is a method of designing buildings with very low energy use. Insulation, triple glazing and air tightness are key to PassivHaus design and buildings are so well insulated that they do not require a conventional heating system.

While the Code for Sustainable Homes is concerned with reducing carbon emissions, PassivHaus focuses solely on the energy demand of the dwelling, the performance of the building fabric and the efficiency of its systems. Since the construction of the 1st PassivHaus building in Germany in 1991, PassivHaus is now rapidly becoming a common building standard throughout Europe.
