PassivHaus is arguably THE low energy, low carbon design standard as it addresses both climate change and the predicted shortage of fossil fuels. Developed in Germany in the 1990s, PassivHaus is based on the principle that reducing heating loss to a minimum is the most robust and cost effective way of achieving a low carbon building.

PassivHaus can reduce energy consumption by up to 90% by relying on a very simple set of premises:
• Very high levels of insulation
• Triple glazed, insulated windows
• 'Thermal bridge free' construction
• Well sealed building fabric
• Mechanical ventilation system to provide highly efficient heat recovery.
We are one of the few assessors with experience of PassivHaus
Whilst the principles behind it may sound simple - to achieve the standard it requires meticulous attention to detail and exacting design and construction on all levels. Energist's team of fully qualified Energy Assessors can guide you through the whole PassivHaus process.
As PassivHaus is a new concept in the UK, we are one of the few assessors with experience. Working in partnership with our German architectural advisor we can provide technical advice and training on all aspects of PassivHaus. We use the PassivHaus Planning Package (PHPP) to model the energy demand of your dwelling. We will make recommendations and give design advice from the design stage meeting until final certification.
We are with you every step of the way.
For the UK, a dwelling is deemed to satisfy the PassivHaus criteria if it has:
a maximum space heating and cooling demand of less than 15 kWh/m2.year or a maximum heating and cooling load of 10W/m2.
a maximum total primary energy demand of 120 kWh/m2/year.
an air change rate of no more than 0.6 air changes per hour @ 50 Pa.
