An Ecology Assessment specifies the ecological value and enhancements of a site and complies with Code and BREEAM.

What the Regulations say...

The United Kingdom hosts a number of rare and endangered plant and animal species. Many of these are protected through legislation and through planning policy.  These “protected species” are a “ material consideration” in the planning system. 

Most Local Authorities have Planning Policy set out in their local development framework, to conserve and enhance biodiversity, this normally includes policies in relation to local wildlife sites and wildlife corridors.

Getting that all important "Yes"

  • The Ecology Assessment must be submitted to your planners and your BREEAM or CSH Assessors, detailing the ecological value of the land.
  • The Assessment should also show where the Suitably Qualified Ecologist (SQE) has recommended ecological improvements.
  • Your development may already have existing features; can you incorporate these into your design to gain extra credits?
  • To determine your species baseline call your ecologist in before you start on site.
