Finance/HR Manager

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a capable and experienced Finance/HR Manager. You will be a key player in the growth of the business, reporting to the Managing Director and be responsible for leading the financial operations as the business transitions to the next phase of growth.

This is a tremendous opportunity for a Finance Manager looking to join a growing organisation and build a career that could progress to Finance Director.

Key tasks:

  • Managing a team of 3 including an HR administrator
  • Overseeing the processing of invoices, credit notes and organising payments
  • Managing credit control
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Arranging the prompt payment of supplier invoices in line with financial priorities of the business.
  • Managing company credit card expenses and reconciliation
  • Monthly creation of payroll for submission to outsourced payroll department
  • Manage Company Pension Scheme, including salary sacrifice and PHI
  • Processing payroll on Xero and arranging monthly payments
  • Preparing and posting month-end journals and undertaking day-to- day tasks including prepayments and accruals
  • Monthly reconciliation of salary control accounts, prepayments and accruals tracking cashflow and keeping the Balance Sheet up to date
  • Managing the Fixed Asset register and tracking depreciation
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns
  • Timely preparation of monthly reports for submission to the Managing Director and Commercial Director
  • Close liaison with the Managing Director so that the current and forecast financial position are visible
  • Working with the Managing Director and Commercial Director in the preparation and continual strategic review of Business Plans
  • Performing variance analyses of actual vs. forecast, monitoring for deviations from the plan and being able to flag the impact of these.
  • Support to budget-holders preparing and tracking their budgets
  • Working with Managers in the Delivery department to analyse timesheet data, identify opportunities and risk to improve commercial performance.
  • Working with the Commercial Director and Client Development Lead to review pricing structures
  • Working with the Managing Director and Commercial Director to develop a bonus structure across the business
  • Close liaison with Operations Manager to track disposals, manage hardware refresh cycles and support insurance cover – both from a budgeting perspective and for capital expenditure forecasting
  • Liaising with an external accountant and assisting in the preparation of the year-end accounts
  • Proactively proposing process improvements to support best accounting practice, and increased efficiencies within the business.
  • Ensure that all company financial practices are in line with statutory financial regulations and legislation
  • Oversee the Company HR function
  • Support the Line Managers in HR matters
  • Assist in annual benchmarking and company benefit reviews
  • Assist with HR administration, including implementation and/or revision of HR policy

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) or qualified by experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Commercial SME as a Finance Manager or Financial Controller role, within the Construction sector would be ideal
  • Clear understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Strong IT skills, proficient in the use of Xero and Excel
  • Experience managing a team
  • Have a passion for financial detail and a desire to be part of our growth
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to effectively prioritise and reprioritise

  • HR experience preferred
