Energy Statement

Is your Local Planning Authority (LPA) insisting on renewable technology targets? With different requirements set by each LPA, you may need to change your design for different authorities.

Energy Statement - At what stage(s) does this apply during your build?

What is an Energy Statement?

An Energy Statement is a detailed calculation report submitted with your Planning Application that shows how a development will achieve the local authority’s emissions target. Energy Statements are not governed nationally and it is up to the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to set the carbon emissions and renewable energy targets.

Frequently the LPA requests a 10%, 15% or 19% reduction in carbon emissions or energy use, in addition to the nationally set building regulations (Part L).

Top Tips for Energy Statements

  • Each Local Planning Authority has a different set of requirements based on their Local Plan. Be prepared to change your design for different authorities.

  • Some LPAs insist on renewable technology targets whereas others are more open to the idea of fabric improvements.

The Energist Approach

  • Energist’s Planning Team can produce an Energy Statement for your proposed development, either in support of your planning application or to discharge a condition.

  • We will review your planning conditions and liaise with the Planning Officer and Design Team on your behalf.

  • In addition, our dedicated London Team are able to advise on some of the more stringent requirements.
